Bishop - Fishing Information

Bishop hosts the Blake Jones Trout Derby, sponsored by the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce and local merchants. It is held every March at the Pleasant Valley Reservoir six miles north of Bishop.

Near Bishop there are numerous mountain fed streams, providing an environment for some great Rainbow, Brown, Brook and Golden trout. The eastern Sierra is renowned for its trout fishing, Whether it's the challenge of the catch-and-release wild trout section of the Owens River or casting your line into a sparkling lake, the chance of catching a big one is always there.

Most of the lakes and streams in the area are stocked by the California Department of Fish and Game. The trout season in the eastern High Sierra runs from the last Saturday in April to November 15th.
